It’s the morning after Halloween. You got all dressed up the night before, put on your make up and decorated your house with pumpkins and goblins to welcome the cute little monsters that came to your front door last night. But now, what do you do with all those pumpkins?
While pumpkins are in season this time of year, there is often a large amount that go to landfill, left to rot; of the estimated 39.9 million pumpkins that are bought in a year, around 22.2 million will go to waste.
Food waste contributes to climate change through releasing ghastly gases while breaking down in landfill, and through the waste of energy and resources that went into its production or harvest. They could be helping to seal our doom. But wait! There’s still hope.
Well, don’t be a terror to terra firma – you can help make the world a little less frightening by thinking about what you can do with those pumpkins. And it will be even more delicious than all those chocolates you got last night.
Instead of throwing them away, and before you put that cauldron back in the cupboard, why not try to make a delicious pumpkin soup? Or even better, a delicious pumpkin cake.
