PLEDGE A PATCH
We need people like you to pledge a patch of your outdoor space, from whole gardens to window boxes, to help us grow the People’s Nature Reserve across Gloucestershire.
Over the last 60 years, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust has worked to protect and enhance many special places and the wildlife they support.
Sadly, most nature reserves are too small and isolated to ensure the long-term future of the species they were designated to protect. The 2010 landmark Lawton Report called for UK conservation to focus on ensuring sites for wildlife are bigger, better and more connected. Sites need to be larger in size, provide better quality habitat and be better connected to each other across the landscape.
We’re already working hard with farmers and landowners to expand our work beyond the boundaries of our reserves, to create larger wildlife friendly areas called Nature Recovery Zones.
DID YOU KNOW?
But we want to go further, and that’s where you come in. Did you know that combined our back gardens make up an area bigger than all the UK's nature reserves put together?!
While individual gardens might be small, together they form a patchwork that links urban green spaces to the wider countryside and nature reserves. This patchwork provides an essential wildlife highway allowing animals, insects, and plants to move across Gloucestershire.
This patchwork of wildlife-friendly spaces is essential not only in ensuring vital food sources and shelter for a range of species but will help them better adapt to our changing climate too.
