Gloucestershire Libraries has a scheme to swap Halloween costumes in the county's libraries. From now to Friday 1 November, you can swap your old Halloween costume for a new one.

An estimated 2,000 tonnes of plastic waste – equivalent to 83m bottles – is generated from throwaway Halloween clothing sold by leading retailers in the UK each year.

Accessories, as well as whole and part costumes are accepted, and you can still take a costume home even if you don’t have one to swap.

Both adult and children’s costumes are accepted.

You can also try to create a costume from second-hand clothes. Try charity shops or second-hand websites online. Alternatively, you can use clothes you already have at home. You can DIY your own costume from pieces you already have.
