Children and families have the perfect opportunity to connect with nature when Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s free annual Autumn Fest takes place at Robinswood Hill Country Park this half-term.
From charming worms, following a nature trail, and getting involved in a not-so-secret book club, there is plenty to keep children entertained for a few hours on Tuesday 29 October. And what’s more it’s totally free.
Hundreds of children and their families are invited to attend the event which runs from 11am to 3pm. Based at the 100-hectare park off Reservoir Road, on the edge of Gloucester, it is a great way for primary school children to spend part of their half-term.
The day includes:
- Worm charming: using the skill of mimicking raindrops on the ground, how many worms can you charm from the ground?
- A nature detective training station: learn how to identify different plants and animals
- Scavenger trail: get your parent’s phone and take part in our photo scavenger hunt. How many of the items can you capture on film? Remember, please take nothing but photos, and leave nothing but footprints.
- Postcards for nature: Nature is in crisis and we want Gloucester City Council to declare a nature emergency. Come design and make a postcard sharing this important plea and we'll send it to your city representative for you.
- Children’s play area
- And finally, visitors will be able to find out more about the Gloucester Nature Park on the other side of the city.
The event is free for anyone taking part whether you are a member or not, but please book via the Eventbrite page here. On top of that, access to the site, as well as parking, is free with space for 30 vehicles.
Rhys Howell, Visitor Engagement Manager at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust said: “I’m so thrilled to see that we’re running this event again. Children will have loads of fun surrounded by the wildlife here on the edge of the city.
“What’s more the event is totally free and even if it does rain there’s a chance to get a hot drink and some food in the café before or after taking a walk around the Hill l and letting off some energy.”
