Orchards through the seasons

The Severn Treescapes project has teamed up with the Wye Valley National Landscape to run a series of workshops to increase confidence among landowners to plant and look after traditional orchards and fruit trees.

Orchard Workshop -Restorative Pruning and Tree Care

This workshop is another in the suite of workshops looking at orchards through the year, and through a lifetime.

Orchards are a fantastic mix of habitat – grassland, woodland edge, deadwood, nectar, niches, crevices, shelter, shade. They also provide a mass of food for wildlife, as well as human food source. There are increasing numbers of community orchards and their value as spaces for immersion in nature and enhancing wellbeing is well known. We want to give people the confidence to use their own or local orchards in their own homes, as well as in the countryside.

Perry pear pruning and tree care:

The workshop will teach participants how to prune old fruit trees safely, focussing on perry trees mainly though there is an apple to discuss too; and how to manage the trees to rejuvenate them.

Questions and discussion are encouraged throughout the day.

The day centres around practical work. Stout boots and good outdoor clothing are essential as the day will be spent enjoying the elements.

All equipment will be provided.

Bring your own packed lunch, hot drinks and biscuits are provided.
