About the reserve

This nature reserve supports both unimproved calcareous and neutral grassland habitats and its banks have particularly outstanding plant life - bursting with rock-rose and milkwort along with a range of other limestone grassland species. Southern marsh-orchids can be found in the flatter, damper meadows alongside the brook, as well as ponds and tall-herb fens, which are important for their peat deposits.

The two blocks of ancient woodland, Penny Grove and Barnage Wood, border Siccaridge Wood on the northern bank of the Sapperton Valley.

Trillis Banks presented an opportunity to secure the long-term future of a high-quality area of grassland very close to other nature reserves in the Golden Valley, linking together habitats and enhancing this network for the benefit of local wildlife.

Trillis Banks was originally attached to Trillis Cottage.
