Corridor of life appeal

£26,786 of £50,000 goal

From ancient woodlands teeming with life and history, to buzzing hedgerows and towering oaks, trees play an essential role in our landscapes and lives.

They provide homes for a diverse range of species, act as natural flood management systems, purify our air and provide sanctuaries of solace. Yet our trees are under threat like never before.

Overdevelopment and climate change have left the UK with some of the lowest amounts of tree cover in Europe.

In Gloucestershire alone, we’ve lost 75% of traditional orchards in the last 50 years. We’re working hard to reverse this loss and create a corridor of life where vulnerable woodland species can flourish. We can’t do it without amazing supporters like you, and this Christmas there’s a fantastic chance to give one gift, but have twice the impact.

Some of our amazing supporters have agreed to match the first £50,000 of donations pound for pound. So £10 becomes £20, £30 becomes £60 and so on, so anything you give will have twice the impact.

By connecting remaining habitats we'll create a corridor of life where nature can flourish and thrive.

You may have heard about Severn Treescapes. This hugely ambitious project aims to create, enhance and protect hedgerows, orchards, wood pasture and more to establish a 60-mile corridor of tree cover. Linking two of the UK's biggest ancient woodlands, the Forest of Dean and the Wyre Forest, this corridor of life will give vulnerable species secure habitats that are critical to their expansion and future survival.

£35 = £70

Could help us create 50m² of native species woodland.

£50 = £100

Could help us plant 2 metres of hedgerow, vital for nesting, foraging and habitat connectivity.
Tree on snowy hill

£133 = £266

Could help us plant a future veteran tree and protect it with fencing for generations to come.

Safety, refuge, protection – the corridor of life will give our precious wildlife space to thrive.

The continued existence of many of Gloucestershire’s best-loved wildlife relies on robust, sustainable tree habitat such as hedgerows, woodland, and orchards. Many vulnerable woodland species, like dormice, struggle to move across open areas of land or busy roads. If their homes are lost they are at real risk of local extinction.

We’ve already got forks in the ground and have worked to connect pockets of tree cover across three counties. Now it’s vital that we continue this momentum, working with as wide a range of farmers and landowners as possible to speed up the creation of more vital habitats before it’s too late. Donating today and doubling your gift means you could help species like these:

It’ll help reintroduced species like pine martens expand into new habitats and broaden their reach.

Increased connectivity will also help strengthen species like Gloucestershire’s reintroduced pine martens. Already thriving in the Forest of Dean, your gift could help us work with farmers in other areas to create new tree cover, allowing the population to spread and join up with Welsh pine martens, creating robust populations and helping to ensure the species’ survival.

This living, breathing corridor of tree cover will also help fight the impacts of climate change

You won’t just be protecting wildlife for future generations. Once completed, this wooded corridor will draw in and capture 1,700 tonnes of carbon. Increased tree cover also helps to slow rainfall, absorb water during storms, improve soil quality and helps reduce the risk of flooding to local towns and villages.

Remember, only the first £50,000 of donations can be doubled*, so please give today.
